The Story:
I wanted to make a bandana and I thought this would be a cute little thing to whip up for spring and summer markets. While the stitches are a bit more advanced, they’re easy to do once you get into the swing of things. I hope you enjoy it!
Things you’ll need:
150 yards of worsted weight yarn.
5mm/H crochet hook
Yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch markers
Stitches and techniques to know:
ch - Chain
dc - Double Crochet
sc - Single Crochet
sk st - Skip Stitch
hdc - Half Double Crochet.
In the third loop - Work into the back third loop of a hdc.
In the front loop (flo) - Work into the front loop of a hdc from the row before
fpdc - Front Post Double Crochet
bpdc - Back Post Double Crochet
ex-puff - Extended Puff Stitch. Yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull up a loop. Pull through all but the last two loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the two loops. See tips and tricks section for a video
Chainless DC - See tips and tricks section for a video
Tips and Tricks:
You will always turn at the start of each row.
Stitch markers will help if they are placed in your peak (the ch 2 space in the middle of each row) and at the end of the rows to help you find your last stitch.
Gauge does not matter in this pattern. I have had success doing this in a slightly thick DK-weight yarn with similar results.
You don’t have to use the chainless double crochet to start your rows, but it will make a nicer-looking edge!
Start with magic circle. You will be working in rows so there is no need to join with a sl st to the first stitch
Row 1: Ch 2 or chainless dc, dc 7x into circle (8dc)
Row 2: ch 2 or chainless dc, dc into first stitch, dc 1x in the next 3 stitches, ch 2, dc 1x in the next 3 stitches, dc 2x in last st
Row 3: ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), hdc 2x into first stitch, hdc 1x in each stitch until you get to the ch 2 space. Hdc 2x into ch space, ch 2, hdc 2x into ch space, hdc 1x in each stitch until the last stitch remains, hdc 2x in last stitch
Row 4: ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), sc 2x into first stitch, sc flo 1x into each stitch until you reach the ch 2 space, sc 2x into ch space, ch 2, sc 2x into ch space, sc flo 1x in each stitch until you reach the last stitch, sc 2x into last stitch

Do not fasten off when you finish this row. Continue to the top part of the bandana.
Top:
Row 1: turn your work so that you’re working along the top edge. Ch 1, hdc across the top evenly. End with an even amount of stitches.
Row 2: ch 2 or do a chainless dc, dc across in the rest of the stitches to the end.
Row 3: ch 2 or do a chainless dc, *fpdc in the next stitch, bpdc in the next stitch* Repeat from * to * across until you have one stitch remaining. dc in that last stitch
